A lot of Arabian countries have switched their weekends from Thursday & Friday to Friday & Saturday starting from the past couple of years. Many rumors were spread several times before in Oman that the Cabinet Council was thinking of making the switch but so far there is no official statement from the Omani government regarding this. Now, it's Sudan's turn. Sudan has finally made the switch. However, it's a bit different with Sudan.
In contrast to most - if not all - of the countries all over the world, Sudan had only a ONE day weekend which was Friday. Thursday was an official FULL day for both public & private sectors. Now according to AK, a fellow Sudanese blogger, the Sudanese Cabinet Council has decided to make the weekend in Sudan a two-days weekend instead of only one day. And it would be Friday and Saturday, effective the 26th of this month.
Some private companies & schools had their weekend on Friday & Saturday, or Friday & Sunday (for schools which had Christians). Though, now with the new official Friday & Saturday weekend I'm not sure if those schools will have a three-days weekend or what exactly?
Either way, congrats to the Sudanese for the switch! Or actually the extra official day off. Maybe only Oman is now left to make the switch? or Saudi Arabia is also still having the Thursday-Friday weekend? Those two Arabian countries are the only two countries I can think of, which still have their weekend on Thursday & Friday...

Wow, I never new that. I always assumed that everyone everywhere had a two day weekend, be it thursday/friday or saturday/sunday.
The weirdest of weekends is I guess is in the other Sultanate. Officially, the weekends for government offices and most schools are on Fridays and Sundays with Saturdays being full working/schooling days. Private sectors though has Saturdays and Sundays weekends. Major retails of course opens 7 days a week 10am-10pm.
